What is a ghost mannequin?

A ghost mannequin, also called an invisible mannequin or packshot mannequin, is a mannequin made for clothing photography. It has detachable parts at the chest, neck, arms and crotch. You dress the mannequin, take your photo and remove the parts to show the inside of the garment. In retouching, the mannequin disappears and the garment seems to float, with a realistic 3D shape.

1. Dress the mannequin with your garment and set up your light.
2. Photograph the front. Then take extra shots with the detachable parts removed, to capture the inside of the neck and sleeves.
3. Combine the shots in retouching. The mannequin is gone and the garment stays.
